How to Glue Glass to LCD Module Using OCA Film

23.09.2015

In our previous article we have described various types of equipment for LCD module repair.

Today we are going to introduce new devices - autoclaves and presses. They can easily attach a glass to an LCD module with the help of an OCA film.

But now let us remind you how to prepare a module for gluing correctly. Prepare Module for Glass Gluing

It is not enough to use only an OCA film to glue a glass. To repair a spare part you will also need the following items:

  • LCD module gluing machine
  • LCD module holder
  • stickers
  • new glass

We’ve already explained how to glue a film to a display in our previous article.

Put an LCD module with OCA film into the holder. Use sticker to remove a protective film, then place a glass on an adhesive film. Carefully press the glass in the middle.

Very often when you attach spare parts to each other, you may see air bubbles between the glass and the module. Also, they may be found between the display and the OCA film.

An LCD module gluing machine was designed especially to fix such defects.

Set the temperature at 40-60 °C and the time from 15 to 30 min before placing a module into the chamber. All settings depend on the model of an LCD module and amount of bubbles. Now let’s have a closer look at module gluing machines and their technical specifications.

How to Glue a Glass under the Pressure (Using Autoclave)

 AS-1518, AS-1620, AS-2030 Models

AS-1518, AS-1620 and AS-2030are devices that glue a glass to a display module under the pressure with the help of an OCA film. AS-1518 and AS-1620 are used for 7" models.

Autoclave AS-2030 differs from other devices. It’s a little bit bigger and designed for models with 13" display. It requires an air compressor which is not included in the package. You can buy it separately here.

The operation principles of these devices and their technical specifications are almost the same. The main difference between these models is in materials they are made of and manufacturing companies.

How to Glue a Glass Using a Press

 YD-118 and VP-203L

YD-118 and VP-203L models have almost the same working principles but they differ in appearance. Both of them glue a glass using a press.

The bottom platform has a special mat, which is used to put an LCD module on. When the top platform is heated to the required temperature, it slides down under the pressure on the module. When the gluing process is finished, the press will go up automatically. Now you can take the module out.

These devices are commonly used for tablets but they can be used for cell phones as well. YD-118 model is recommended for devices with 11" display while VP-203L is for 13" display models.

The package content of these models includes a vacuum pump and an air compressor.

How to Glue a Glass Using an Autoclave and a Press

LY-898 and Triangel

Let us introduce so called 4-in-1 devices. One universal device has functions of a pump, air compressor, vacuum press, and an autoclave.

Today we offer two models - LY-898 and Triangel. They differ in manufacturing companies and materials they are made of. The operating principle of these devices is the same.

Place an LCD module on the mat and put it under the press. Set the temperature and time depending on the display model and amount of air bubbles. The heated press will slide down under the pressure to glue the glass. The press will go up automatically after the gluing process is finished. So now you can pull out the module.

If you can still see air bubbles, place the module in an autoclave for a short period of time. We recommend using it in any case, even when there are no bubbles left.

It is worth mentioning that there are models of cell phones/smartphones, in which a backlight must be removed before putting the module under the press. In such case an autoclave is very helpful. There is no need to remove the backlight for bonding it to the module in the autoclave. The glass is attached to the module under the pressure of the air.

However, each service technician can come up with their individual approach for working with this device. For example, you can use just a press or an autoclave to glue a glass. However, you need to have some experience in working with such devices and know the values (time, pressure, temperature) required for each and every model of modules.

LY-898 and Triangel models are very convenient because you don’t need to buy any additional equipment. Both devices are quite compact, considering the fact that all the necessary appliances are already built in them. Such device won’t take up more space in your service center than a microwave in your kitchen.

To Sum Up?

Today we have reached the finish line in describing the process of gluing a glass to a display module.
Thus, let us remind that at first you should unstick the old broken glass. We recommend using a separator for this purpose.

Then you need to clean the surface of the display module by cutting the glue using a UV glue removing machine.

When the display module is absolutely clean and grease-free, it is time to glue an OCA film. Use a laminator to do this fast and accurately.

Now we have come to the final step of the display module repair. Remove the protective film from the OCA film then put a new glass, carefully pressing it down in the middle. Then put the module under the press or in the autoclave for final gluing and to eliminate air bubbles.

That’s it! It will take just a few minutes to replace a glass in a display module with the help of the above-mentioned devices.

LCD module repair equipment offers high-quality and fast replacement of an LCD module. The quality of adhesion in the repaired module won’t differ from the original one.
